1. Idli:

Fluffy as cotton balls and white as the moon. Idli is a very famous breakfast in Chennai which is prepared by the mix of rice and black gram flour. Idli is generally served with Sambar and varieties of Chutneys. It is the healthiest South Indian Breakfast, as they are easy to digest and a favorite for all age groups! For steaming hot idlis and a rejuvenating tumbler of filter coffee at 6 am, this is the place to head to- Murugan Idli Kadai.

Crisp and thin pancakes made of rice and urad dal batter, Dosa has put south India on every culinary hotspot of the world. This delicious dish is prepared by the mix of rice and black gram flour and it is one of the favorite food for many people across the globe. There are varieties of Dosas like Masala Dosa, Onion Dosa, Ghee Dosa, Uthappam, etc. The crispy Ghee Roast Dosai at Sangeetha hotel and Rava Dosa at Udipi hotel are never miss dishes in Chennai.

White noodles like dish which is prepared by boiling rice flour in steam. Idiappam is often served with sugar and coconut milk. This is one breakfast dish that you can get at home from idiyappam anna who sells them every day at your neighbourhood.

4. Ven Pongal:

This is one of the most popular breakfasts in Tamil Nadu made of rice and dal. Ven Pongal can make a scrumptious breakfast for those who spend long hours at work. Hot and spicy Pongal dripping with ghee tastes heavenly in the cold winter mornings-just one small serving feels like a feast.

Poori is often served with a potato curry known as poori masala/ kizhangu. Poori Kizhangu, a popular South Indian restaurant style gravy, pairs well with Poori, Dosai and also Rava Idli. The Poori masala which they normally serve in restaurants especially in Saravana Bhavan is one of my most favorite.

Your metabolism and blood sugar control are better in the morning than they are in the evening or at night, so it makes sense to eat more food earlier in the day.
